[아이뉴스24 권준영 기자] 경찰이 아내를 폭행해 숨지게 한 혐의를 받고 있는 유승현 전 김포시의회 의장에 대해 살인죄 적용을 검토하기로 한 가운데 유 씨를 상해치사 혐의로 구속영장을 신청했다.
16일 경기 김포경찰서에 따르면, 유승현 전 의장은 전날 오후 4시 57분쯤 김포시 자택에서 아내 A씨를 주먹과 골프채 등으로 수차례 때려 숨지게 한 혐의(폭행치사)를 받고 있다.
사건 당시, 유 씨는 "아내가 숨을 쉬지 않는다"며 직접 119에 신고한 뒤 출동한 경찰에 의해 현장에서 체포됐다.
구조대원들이 유 씨의 집에 도착했을 때, A씨는 이미 심정지 상태였던 것으로 전해졌다.
A씨의 양팔과 다리에서는 수개의 멍이 발견됐으며 얼굴과 머리에는 타박상을 입어 부어오른 흔적이 있었다. 얼굴과 발 등에서는 일부 자상도 발견됐다.
이와 함께 현장에서는 피가 묻은 골프채 한 자루와 빈 소주병 3개가 발견됐으며 소주병 1개는 깨진 상태인 것으로 조사됐다.
경찰 조사에서 유 씨는 "자택 주방에서 A씨를 폭행했고, 이후 A씨는 안방으로 들어간 뒤 기척이 없었다"며 "성격 차이를 비롯해 평소 감정이 많이 쌓여 있었다"고 진술했다.
한편, 유승현 전 의장은 지난 2002년 김포시의회 의원으로 정치에 입문, 2012년부터 2014년까지 김포시의회 의장을 지냈다.
